SIMSBURY, CT — A small airplane crashed in Simsbury on Tuesday night, and its pilot left the scene in another plane without telling authorities about the crash, several news outlets reported.

The plane had crashed into a greenhouse structure adjacent to the Simsbury Airport, the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company said on Facebook.

A resident who owns a farm noticed at around 8:30 p.m. that the plane had crashed into their hoop house (the greenhouse structure), located at the end of the airport's runway on Wolcott Road, WTNH reported.

A search for the pilot — who officials determined was the only person on board the plane — ensued, and he was found safe at his home, NBC Connecticut reported.

"The owner was bringing the plane to Simsbury for some service and was being followed by another individual in a second plane," Fire Chief Jim Baldis said, as reported by NBC Connecticut. "When the incident occurred, he dropped off some material at the airport, hopped in his friend's plane and basically went home. Unfortunately, he never notified anybody."

No injuries were reported and the accident remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company said.
