15 Best Folding Electric Bikes For Women- Woman's World

2022-03-12 03:04:28 By : Ms. Fiona Meng

Spring is here, and it’s time to start cruising. We’ve done miles of research to find the best folding electric bikes for women that take you the distance. Whether you want a greener commute or an easier biking experience, there’s a bike to meet your needs and style.

Like regular electric bikes, the folding variety are energy efficient, but are also space saving. Unlike cars, they don’t require insurance or gas, making them an economic and fun transportation option. Many come with accessories, extra safety features, and can be ridden in all types of weather and environments.

Before you zoom off to get yours, here’s a little more about why folding electric bikes are the best way to travel.

Electric bikes include a motor to make pedaling easier. Those that fold are great for those who need to carry their bike on a train or who have limited space at home. However, they offer even more benefits than those, explains Levi Conlow, Lectric eBikes Co-founder and CEO.

“To start, purchasing an electric bike allows users to improve their lifestyle and overall health. A U.S. study found improvements in cardiovascular health, aerobic capacity, and reduced body fat by those who rode an electric bike as little as 40 minutes per week,” Conlow said. “Electric bikes are also a great transportation method for those with health issues and disabilities, as they make movement easier and more accessible.”

Also known as folding E-bikes, motorized bicycles can move up to 50 miles at 28 miles per hour in a single charge. According to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, 60 percent of all car trips are under six miles. That means you could save hundreds on gas and parking just by using your bike once or twice per week. (To calculate your savings, visit AAA, and then plug your gas cost into the calculator at Dollar Times.)

Another thing that makes these bikes good is that they’re strong enough to carry heavy loads. Many of the best folding electric bikes, like the Blix Vika Flex, come with saddle bags, side baskets or an accessory to attach packages or weightier items. That means you can use them for impromptu grocery trips or when you need to lug something heavy home.

Because the motor is battery operated, they’re very eco-friendly. In fact, according to Green America, they have zero-gas emissions, which means they’re a fun way to lower your carbon footprint. They’re cheaper than a second car, don’t require a special license, and allow you to enjoy your community while skipping its traffic.

There are many folding electric bikes on the market, and the choices can be overwhelming. Although a lot of companies try to impress with all their features, there are just a few things to pay close attention to:

“When looking for a [folding electric bike], it’s important to ensure it will suit all your needs,” says Conlow. “To start, you must consider what the electric bike will be used for, whether that be commuting, hauling, [or] leisure…Each purpose will require different needs and features in the electric bike to utilize it most comfortably. Additionally, determining the preferred terrain and where exactly you’re looking to ride is crucial in the purchase process. Ask yourself, ‘Are there hills? Will it be ridden primarily on paved roads, or will it be mostly used for off-road riding? Where will the bike be stored? Will it be hauled? If so, does it need to be foldable?’

Finally, you should establish how often you’re planning to use it and what your budget for the purchase is.”

These bikes main attraction is that they’re foldable. They’re also heavy. If you plan on frequently carrying it, choose a lighter model (we’ll cover that below). As Conlow mentioned, the type of surface you ride on should also be factored in. If you’re traveling on flat ground, a bike with a motor of 250 watts will be fine. However, it may have difficulty accelerating uphill. If you want to ride trails or bumpier roads, something that offers 500 watts or more is the way to go.

Another thing to note is the distance you plan to travel and how long it takes for a bike to charge. Some bikes take up to seven hours to rejuice, so you’ll want to calculate for your round trip instead of one way. Also look at tires. Fat tires tend to be better for off roading, and work for all seasons.

Folding electronic bikes are ultra sturdy and therefore heavier than non-motorized bicycles. On the heaviest side, they average about 70 pounds, which is a lot if you’re carrying up a flight of stairs. However, there are some lightweight folding electric bikes available.

A great example of this is the Gocyle G4. Along with being one of the best folding electric bikes, it’s also one of the lightest, coming in at 38 pounds. It can take you 45 miles in a single charge, has silica compound in the tires for a smoother ride, and also includes a USB port.

Slightly heavier but still on the light side is the Gyroor C2. It weight 53 pounds, but has mini wheels that can be used once you fold the bike up. It also has a super unique look, so if you like to grab peoples attention, it may be the one for you.

When narrowing down the best folding electric bikes for you, don’t forget to consider the places you plan to ride, and how far you want to travel. Our Managing Commerce Editor had good things to report on her experience with the Lectric XP 2.0, which she shares below. Personally, I like their Step-Thru 2.0 model, because of its accessibility — I have knee issues. Whichever catches your eye, both allow you to cycle in diverse terrains and are durable. I love that you can add different accessories to all of their bikes, and that you can go up to 45 miles in a single charge. Plus, it arrives fully assembled!

Another popular E-bike is the RadMini 4. It features puncture resistant tires, and has 750 watts of power. It’s great for exploring trails, but also for jetting around town.

Editor’s Review: “This is my first E-bike, and I’m so happy it’s easy to use. The bike is a sturdy 65 pounds and was a little awkward to get out of the box, but it comes almost completely assembled. All I had to do was drop in the handlebars, and pop open the bike (it comes folded), which took me about five minutes. A screwdriver, Allen key, and standard wrench are the only tools I needed, and they were just used for tweaking the LCD screen, control pad, and gear shifters. I recommend watching the “Your First Ride” video on the Lectric website.

When I took my first ride, I quickly became accustomed to using the motor. The right handlebar is the throttle, but I prefer to use the pedal assist, which gives me an automatic boost while pedaling, so I can keep up with my speedy kids. There is also a cruise control if I want to set my speed for longer rides, and the LCD screen kept track of my speed and distance. I’m not an experienced cyclist, so I was surprised how quickly I caught on to all of this, and how safe I felt riding trails. I love the wide tires, sturdy frame, and that the seat and handlebars adjust for any height. The bike is super easy to fold on my own and fits in my car — that alone is reason enough to love it!

I would absolutely recommend the Lectric E-bike for beginners and advanced cyclists. Not only is it super affordable compared to other models, but it really is portable and simple to use from the start. This would be a great bike for older people as well, as it’s sturdy without being huge. I hope to get another one soon. My husband keeps stealing this one!“
