COVENTRY: A Hyfield Avenue woman reported May 1 she received a call from a man who claimed to work for an online shopping website and attempted to convince her to purchase gift cards, which she declined to do. At 1 a.m. May 4, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the parking lot of a Manchester Road bar after a pickup truck reportedly struck a trash receptacle. Deputies found the unoccupied vehicle on top of the receptacle and searched the area but were unable to locate the driver. A neighbor reported a suspicious vehicle was outside a vacant Pamer Drive house May 4. Deputies determined it had been stolen from Canton and charged the Portage Street driver with receiving stolen property. The man told deputies he had swallowed illegal narcotics, and he was transported to a hospital. During a tow inventory of the vehicle, deputies found two catalytic converters inside it, a portable saw and numerous new and used saw blades. The driver was additionally charged with possession of criminal tools and taken to the Summit County Jail. Deputies responded to a dispute between a man and woman at a Saunders Avenue residence May 4. The man stated he wanted the woman to leave and deputies offered her a ride. Before getting into the cruiser, deputies asked the woman to open her purse so they could verify she had no weapons. She stated she had marijuana and a drug pipe, and she was charged with their possession. On May 5, deputies were called to a South Main Street gas station after a customer said he was denied service. An employee told deputies the man had prepaid for $100 in gas April 30, left the pump unattended while the gas was filling and the tank was filled with $220 in gas. The customer refused to pay the additional amount, and the employee agreed that the customer could pay $100 and the employee would pay $20, but the customer only paid $50. The employee said the customer would be welcomed back when he paid the additional $50. An Eastern Road woman reported May 6 her landlord’s son sold a swing set belonging to her deceased mother. The parties provided conflicting information and they were advised it is a civil matter. A Greer Road man reported May 6 he provided personal and financial information to an unknown caller a week prior. He stated he notified his bank, canceled his credit cards and put a hold on his bank account and has had no financial loss. He received another such call and refused to provide information. Deputies responded to a May 7 report by a Lake Beach Boulevard woman who stated someone twisted the doorknob of her residence. Deputies searched the area and were unable to locate the person. On May 9, deputies reviewed video surveillance from a Manchester Road store after the manager reported two men took merchandise and left without paying for it. The new owner of an East Warner Road home reported an abandoned vehicle was on the property May 10. Deputies determined the vehicle owner was deceased and had the vehicle towed. Deputies investigated a May 10 report by a Jasmine Avenue woman who stated she believes someone has been following her and described several recent suspicious incidents. A Darnell Drive man reported May 11 a former treasurer of a club he is president of stole $12,000 from the club’s bank account. He stated the Lexington woman has been banned from the club and her whereabouts is unknown.

GREEN: A motorist on South Arlington Road reported May 1 at 2 p.m. she heard two gunshots and she believed a bullet struck her vehicle. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies found no indication her vehicle had been hit by a bullet. A woman reported she was at a Wise Road dog park May 2 when she saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle. When he saw her he fled and she found the car door lock had been drilled out. Also on May 2, a woman reported a dog bit her while she was running. She believes the dog lives in a residence on Cottage Grove Road. The manager of a South Arlington Road business reported May 4 two vehicles in the lot were damaged and the catalytic converter was stolen from one of them. Deputies found a saw blade under the vehicle. On May 5, deputies investigated a report by a Greensburg Road business manager who stated a vehicle on the lot was damaged and a catalytic converter was stolen from a recreational vehicle. The manager of an Arlington Ridge Road store reported May 5 two men stole clippers from the store and left in a Nissan Altima. A Clemmer Avenue woman was charged with theft May 6 after she reportedly concealed items in her purse and left a Corporate Woods Parkway store without paying for them. Deputies corralled two dogs running in yards on Knollwood Drive May 6 and took them to their owner, who had received several warnings regarding the dogs running loose. The owner was charged with failure to control her dogs. An Everbright Drive man reported May 7 a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle parked outside. A Stonehurst Road woman was charged with failure to control her dog May 7 after the dog ran from her yard and bit another dog being walked on a leash. A man reported his wallet was stolen from a vehicle parked outside a Walnut Way residence May 8 between 8 and 11:30 p.m. A Bonna Drive woman reported May 8 a weed trimmer, cordless wrench, amplifier and 6-ton jack stand were stolen from her garage. A Tallmadge man reported he was sleeping in his vehicle in an Arlington Ridge Road parking lot May 9 at 11 a.m. when a man damaged his vehicle in an attempt to steal the catalytic converter. That man fled in a vehicle with a female passenger when confronted. An employee of a business in the 3100 block of Massillon Road reported the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle May 9 or 10. Following a traffic stop on Interstate 77 May 10, an Overwood Road man was charged with possession of marijuana found in the vehicle. An Illinois man staying at an Arlington Ridge Road hotel reported May 11 the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle. The manager of a Fortuna Drive hotel reported May 10 a guest created a disturbance and refused to leave. Deputies advised the guest to pack her things and go and the Georgia woman left without incident. The next day, deputies investigated the burglary of a Graybill Road home under construction after someone entered an out-building and stole lawn equipment, then entered the residence through a window and stole items including a trunk and keys to the residence, garage and a pickup truck, and then went to the garage and stole the truck. Deputies arrested a Coronado Avenue woman for theft May 11 after she failed to scan items at the self-checkout register at a Corporate Woods Parkway store and left the store without paying for them.

NEW FRANKLIN: A Uniontown man was pulled over May 4 for having an expired license plate. Police determined he also had a suspended license. The man was arrested for driving under suspension and his car was towed. Also May 4, an Akron man was stopped for traveling 58 mph in a 35-mph zone. During the stop, police noticed an odor of marijuana, and a clear container of marijuana was found on the passenger-side floor of the vehicle. The driver was cited for speeding and possession of drugs. Police were called to a domestic incident at a Swigart Road residence May 5. A man said he and a woman were arguing over her cellphone and she struck him in the face, causing a bruise. The man declined to press charges but told police he wanted the woman removed from the property. When police questioned the Akron woman, she said there were personal items on the phone and she was not going to allow the man to have it. She also claimed the man pushed and held her down. Due to lack of evidence and cooperation from the two, no charges were filed, but the woman was turned over to Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department deputies on a felony warrant. A man was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs May 5 after he was found on a Center Road property where police were investigating a suspicious person report. The man reportedly told police he was involved in a motor vehicle accident, his vehicle was in the woods nearby and he was attempting to make contact with a resident to call 911. The car was located off of the roadway and the man was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. Police also seized a smoking pen in the man’s possession.

SPRINGFIELD: A driver was cited for driving under suspension and he and his passenger were given warnings for having an open container of alcohol and marijuana inside their car following a traffic stop April 12. Also April 12, a Klages Boulevard resident reported an outdoor air conditioning unit was stolen sometime between September and the date of the report. The homeowner was unable to provide any details about the make or model of the unit and said she needed the police report to document the theft for insurance purposes. A Howard Avenue woman reported April 12 someone used her information to file 2021 taxes and receive the refund in their own bank account. A truck driver reported a dockworker damaged his box truck while he was picking up a shipment at a Picton Parkway business April 12. The report was taken for documentation. An Akron man was stopped at South Arlington Road and Archmere Drive April 13 for driving with one headlight and expired tags. The man had a warrant for improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle out of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. He reportedly refused to allow officers to search his car but agreed when he was told the car would be searched during a tow inventory. The man told police there was a loaded handgun under the passenger seat, and they found the loaded weapon and charged the man with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle. He was booked into the Summit County Jail and the vehicle was towed. An employee at a Canton Road restaurant reported that a customer in the drive-thru line April 13 threw a bag of food at her through the drive-thru window, causing an injury, before driving away. Police traced the license plate number to an address on Ripley Avenue in Akron, and a woman living at the address reportedly admitted to getting angry about an incorrect order, driving back to the restaurant and throwing the food at the employee. She was arrested for assault. Police responded to a theft from a Canton Road store April 13. Employees reported seeing a man take items and leave without paying for them. He left in a car with a temporary license plate placed over the license plate. Police identified the car owner and found the temporary tag belonged to a different person, and the driver remained unknown. Management at a South Arlington Road service station reported April 14 that a recently hired employee was cashing his paychecks in person at the business and also taking a photo of the paper check and making a mobile deposit into his bank account. The employee reportedly double-cashed paychecks on four occasions the company was aware of, for a fraudulent total of more than $1,070. The bank agreed to refund the business its money and police declined charges against the employee. The driver of an SUV pulled over on Interstate 77 April 14 for having no taillights or a visible license plate was found to have an expired driver’s license and expired tags on the vehicle. A passenger was found to have outstanding warrants through the Akron Police Department and Sheriff ‘s Office. Police also found suspected marijuana in the driver’s purse during a tow inventory of the vehicle. The SUV was towed and the driver was cited for the expired driver’s license and tags. An Akron woman was arrested April 14 for reportedly stealing $72 worth of merchandise from a South Arlington Road store. A Canton man fled from the parking lot of a South Arlington Road store April 14 when store security confronted him for trying to steal paint. Witnesses provided police the license number of the man’s car and a theft warrant was issued for the man’s arrest. He was seen trespassing on the store property April 20 and police arrested him on the warrant and a charge of criminal trespass. Police investigating a noise complaint at a Laverne Lane residence April 14 questioned a man, who police determined had an active warrant out of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, and found him in possession of methamphetamine and a glass methamphetamine pipe. He was turned over to Portage County deputies. Police were called to a fight at a South Arlington Road restaurant April 15. A woman identified said she and her boyfriend work together and began arguing when he accused her of talking to another man at work. She said they began pushing each other and she admitted to pushing him into a car and damaging it. Both declined to press charges. A driver was pulled over at Killian and Pressler roads April 16 after being seen driving left of center on Massillon Road. The driver was found to have a suspended license and failed field sobriety tests. Police also reportedly found two half-empty bottles of vodka inside the car. The driver reportedly admitted to consuming vodka. Her car was towed and she was issued a citation for driving under suspension and operating a motor vehicle while impaired and released to a sober adult. Police responded to an alarm at a South Arlington Road lending business May 13. An employee told officers a “dark skinned male wearing a black beanie cap, white surgical mask and a blue shirt” entered the business at 11:10 a.m. and demanded cash while pointing a handgun at the employee. He reportedly fled without obtaining any money. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department at 330-784-1609.
