The Xiaomi Face Recognition Smart Door Lock is now available to pre-order in China. The device uses a 3D structured light technology, projecting 31,000 points onto the face for an accurate scan, unlocking the door in as little as one second. Facial recognition can also be used in low lighting thanks to an infrared camera and can store up to 50 faces for people who are 1.3 to 2 m (~4 ft 3-in to 6ft 7-in) tall.

Over ten security technologies are used to make the gadget safe, and the face scanning has a 0.0001% error rate, according to Xiaomi. Alternatively, you can unlock the device with your fingerprint, a password or via the Mijia app when you connect your smartphone via Bluetooth. With its Mijia and Apple HomeKit compatibility, you can trigger smart home scenarios, such as lights turning on when you unlock the door. You can also receive app notifications if the door is not closed properly or the battery is running low; the 6,250 mAh battery is expected to last for six months.

The smart door lock includes a doorbell and can operate in temperatures from -10 to 55 °C (~14 to 131 °F). The product is compatible with doors measuring 40 to 120 mm (1.6 to 4.7-in) thick, and the lock itself measures 411 x 77 x 26.3 mm (~16.2 x 3.0 x 1.0-in). You can currently pre-order the Xiaomi Face Recognition Smart Door Lock in China for 1,999 yuan (~US$284.98) with a 100 yuan (~US$14.26) deposit. After this pre-sale period, the device is expected to retail for 2,199 yuan (~US$313.49).
